Jim Younkin of Power Word Gold was browsing through my site, and noticed it was loading quite slowly. He asked if I had done any image optimization. My response was, "What is image optimization?" Well, he pointed out that while the pictures look good, they were close to a megabyte each.
I was unaware that they stayed that large, even when they are in their thumbnail form. Unfortunately, the way Weebly handles images, they are always loaded to their full size. So, he showed me a few GIMP tricks to reduce their size down, but maintain their fidelity.
I'm always down to make things smoother, especially when you consider that each of those tiny pictures you see when I put up "Fresh Fashion" could be upwards of 10 megabytes of data. Probably not something you want loaded when you are on a mobile device.
Another significant change coming is each of the blog pages is being reduced to 5 posts displayed per page, down from 10, along with the return of gratuitous page breaks. So, be sure to click that little "Read More" text at the bottom of a post. I may go through older posts and put breaks in them, though I think the time would be better spent on getting fresh content posted.
And speaking of fresh content, I have a couple submissions I want to get posted. The sets look great, and they should be up soon. Thanks again to everyone who submits their sets and makes this community lively and enjoyable.
Last, but certainly not least, is the addition of a gold making blog section. I'm calling it "Mog Money", and I'll be putting little tidbits about my adventures in selling, and reselling, transmogrification items. Once I get a good night's sleep, I'll be finishing the Just 20 Silver (#just20silver) 20th day post, followed soon after by the 30th day post. The project was definitely a success, so I'd like to wrap it up with a bow and show it off to everyone.
Until next time, remember: MOG ALL THE THINGS! :p
